“GOING FREEHAND THROUGH MOST OF LIFE”

Louise Manureva Barbé is a Belgian visual artist whose work is shaped by years spent between Belgium, Morocco, Colombia, Mexico and the South of France. While these places may appear separate, her work reflects the opposite: one world built from multiple homes.

Through painting, textiles and sculptural objects, she brings together fragments of different cultures, landscapes and interiors into a single visual language.

Architecture plays a central role in this process. Tiled surfaces, windows, vessels, plants and domestic spaces reappear throughout her work as traces of daily life and cultural identity. Rather than depicting existing locations, she assembles fragments of remembered places into new environments shaped by warmth, freedom and connection.

Often working from memory rather than direct observation, Manureva Barbé creates personal geographies where different places, moments and experiences coexist. For her, painting is a way of bringing together the people, cultures and places that continue to shape her life, regardless of where she is.

Her works are not representations of a single place, but of multiple homes existing within the same world.
